Bow Grip and Frog Repair | Epoxy Casting and Chipped Corner Restoration

This bow required a small casting repair near the grip and a chipped corner on the frog. After removing the old grip and a few wire wraps, the damaged areas were carefully cleaned and restored using clear epoxy and a custom mold. The casting was shaped to match the original facets, polished, and finished with a new grip and rehair, restoring both the appearance and ;function of the bow.

• Remove old grip: Carefully take off the existing grip to expose the damaged area.
• Unwind silver wire: Remove a couple of wraps of silver wire to gain access for the repair.
• Clean the surface: Prepare the exposed area by cleaning it thoroughly.
• Create a mold: Build a mold to contain the epoxy during casting.
• Mix epoxy: Gently mix clear epoxy to avoid introducing excess air bubbles.
• Fill the mold: Pour the epoxy into the mold to fill the void completely.
• Remove bubbles: Use gentle heat and vibration to eliminate trapped air from the epoxy.
• Shape the casting: Once cured, carefully flatten the cast section to match the bow’s facets.
• Polish the surface: Smooth and polish the epoxy repair for a clean, blended finish.
• Repair chipped frog: Fill the missing corner using a mixture of ebony dust, black pigment, and epoxy.
• Finish frog casting: Shape and blend the casting so it matches the original contours of the frog.
• Install new grip:Fit a new grip to the bow and rehair the bow.
